The capital - Yerevan (1,1 mln)
Regional administrative unite - 10 regions(marz) and Yerevan considered as a separate region.
Based on 2003 official estimatas Armenia's population is 3,2 million.
Ethnically Armenia is a homogeneous country with 98% Armenians, the rest includes ethnic groups like Russians, kurds, assyrians, greeks and others.

Geographical information

|
Armenia is situated on the southern side of the Caucasus. Total area is 29800 km2.
The neighboring countries are: Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north,
Azerbaijan to the east and southeast, and Iran to the south.
The highest poin is on mountain Aragats(4090 m) and the lowest one in the canyon of river Debet(400 m).

Climate
|
|
RA is situated in subtropical zone of north latitude. The climate here is dry continental.
Usually the climate is warm. The summers are hot, temperatures deviating from + 25 C till + 36 C.
In winter days are short and cold, temperature droping till -15 C.
High moutain tops are covered with everlasting snow and the foots of mountains are alpine grasslands.

Currency

The currency in the RA is Dram (AMD), in circulation since 1993.
There are 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, 20 000, 50 000 banknotes, and also 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 coins.

Language

The official language of RA is armenian, which is a separate member of Indo-European family of languages
Armenian alphabet was created in 405 AD by Mesrop Mashtots. The first sentence written by armenian letters
was "Know the wisdome and as an advice, be aware of the deeds of the genious".
Russian dominates as the second language and English is the third spoken language.

Religion
|
|
The religion of the RA is Christianity. Armenia was the first nation in the world,
which accepted and adopted Christianity as a national religion in 301 AD. The majority
of armenian population belongs to the Armenian Apostolate Church. The head of Armenian Apostolate
Church is the PanArmenian Catholicos, now Garegin the Second, who resides in Etchmiadzin
(the central religious city of Armenia).
